Edinburgh Castle in Scotland

There is one structure that dominates the skyline of Scotland's Capital, Edinburgh and that is the castle. In fact there is no other castle in the UK that can actually equal it and with so much history to be found within its walls it is easy to see why more than a million people each year choose to visit it.
As soon as you have climbed up to the Castle you can see why people centuries ago chose to make this area their home. We have always looked for a place that is safe and offers us refuge not only from others but also the elements. It is the volcanic rock that forms the base of this particular structure that has provided not only the most defensive position in Edinburgh but also the safest.
Of course don't limit yourself to just wandering around the grounds of Edinburgh Castle. If you feel up to it then take a walk along the ramparts. As the highest points you are then rewarded with some of the most spectacular views of not only the City of Edinburgh but also the surrounding countryside.
If you happen to reach these parts on a clear day then you are offered some wonderful views of the Mountains that make up part of the region of Scotland known as the Kingdom of Fife. Whilst immediately below you can be seen Princes Street Gardens, Princes Street and then George Street. Plus also from the ramparts you are offered amazing views of Georgian New Town Street and Queen Street that runs parallel to it. It is both New Town Street and Princes Street where the majority of the shops can be found. However on Princes Street they are only to be found on its north side so when on it you will be provided with uninterrupted views of Edinburgh Castle.
